Obergurgl
Farther south, the valley road climbs steeply to valley end, where the quieter, more traditional hamlet of Obergurgl nestles in splendid seclusion. It’s among the favorite early-season ski resorts here, as its slopes are high enough to have good snow, and as the social ambiance here tends more toward convivial mingling than meat-market melée.
The village largely shuts down in summer, with only solitude-seeking hikers in town; but Obergurgl proves lively in the winter months, with 110 km of high-altitude ski runs, lift links to nearby Hochgurgl, and lots of ski-in accommodations – much of it booked well in advance.
