Mayrhofen
The Zillertal’s most happening action – particularly in winter – centers on the village resort of Mayrhofen. First settled as an Alpine farming community, the village is today the Zillertal’s most popular tourist resort, enjoying a splendid location at the confluence of the Zemmbach and Ziller rivers and at the foot of a magnificent ring of peaks. The train station and the Penkenbahn gondola depart from town center, and attractions include, in winter, several cross-country skiing loops, easy access to local ski slopes, and a lively après-ski scene; in summer, hiking, biking, glacier skiing, watersports, a nice pool complex, and – of course – the extensive sporting opportunities of the extended Zillertal valley.
