Gîtes are rural cabins or structures built to accommodate hikers or other travelers overnight in simple, yet comfortable quarters. These are run by the Maison du Parc, and reservations are necessary. This gîte, the House of Iron, was built originally for the Universal Exposition in 1889 by a colleague of Gustave Eiffel as a demonstration of housing that comes in a kit. Its current location is in an exotic garden overlooking the Yvette River valley with 18 beds available in rooms for two, four or six people. Open all year except the end of December.
