We picked the Café du Commerce from the various restaurants and cafés that line two sides of Aigues Mortes’ central plaza because I wanted oysters and the restaurant’s display of shellfish on ice looked tempting. It was a lucky choice – we were not disappointed. The plateau of oysters was generous and absolutely fresh. A wide selection of seafood and grilled meats was unadventurous but nicely prepared. Like all the other restaurants in the Place Saint Louis, the Café du Commerce benefits from the festive and friendly holiday atmosphere in the plaza. In the summer, there’s live music and the shops and galleries stay open late for strolling and browsing. We had to wait about half an hour for a table, so reserving ahead is probably a good idea.
