Even if you don’t need a thing, if you’ve never been to a hypermarché, you owe yourself an eye-opening visit. These are giant French stores that combine supermarkets with delis, liquor stores, wine shops, furniture stores, hardware stores, clothing shops, sometimes pet shops – I could go on. Basically, a hypermarket is like a big suburban shopping mall all contained in one shop. LeClerc in Saint Raphaël lists these departments – food, drink, butcher, baker, fashion and accessories, health and beauty, household goods, furniture, tableware, linens, luggage, paints and papers, hardware, electrical appliances, flowers and plants, games, stationery, sporting goods, music and video, camping and outdoor goods, tools, home decorating, automobile accessories and a pet shop.
