Continuing to wean yourself from all of the glitz, Randall Knives,is a nifty stopfor outdoorsmen and women. Thelate Bo Randall made his first knife in 1937. Less than a decade later, he’d carved his reputation. Ronald Reagan, then an Army captain, carried one to war, as did Gen. William Westmoreland. The original Mercury astronauts carried them into pace. Randall died in 1989, but his son, Gary, and grandson, Jason, continue the tradition, creating literally 2 million models, from the Arkansas Toothpick, which looks like a cross between a sword and a stiletto, to the Model 17 Astro survival knife the Mercury boys took with them. As an added bonus, their modest shophas a museum that includes thousands of treasures – among them is a Seminole knife with a gator jaw handle. (This attraction is a little hard to find given the perpetual road construction on US 17/92 and a nearly invisible sign. Call the Randalls for directions.)
