The Timmelsjoch high Alpine road leads south from Hochgurgl up through the Ötztal’s glacier country, over the 2,509-m Timmelsjoch Pass, descending across the border into Italy. The scenic route is open in summer only, from late May through September, and the current toll is Euro 10. Farther into Italy along the same route is the town of Bolzano, home to Ötzi and the South Tyrol Archaeological Museum.
