Montana's Glacier Country

Glacier Country, the name given the mountain landscape of western Montana, celebrates the glaciers that once overlayed it. When the ice sheets retreated, roughly 20,000 years ago, they left U-shaped valleys shouldered by peaks of surpassing magnificence. Glacial remnants still hang on some north-facing slopes. Shivery mini-lakes nestle in mountain cirques. Larger lakes lie deep in glacier-ground valleys.

Best of Montana

To say that Montana's Glacier Country is an adventurer’s dreamland is to state the obvious. This is a place of stunning beauty that offers adventures of the mind and speaks to the soul. The saga of its Indian tribes, of trappers, traders and explorers, is relived through numerous museums and historic sites.

Montana's Glacier Country exerts a magnetic pull, whether seen from your car or experienced via trails winding into the high country.
