Argelès-Gazost Travel Guide

Introduction

Argelès-Gazost is a small but charming town, more or less a village, nestled in the Pyrénées and surrounded by lakes and mountain peaks. It has a delightful little downtown area, lined with shops and cafés. There are also a casino and thermal spa here, and a medieval abbey to interest history buffs. But the town is popular mainly with nature-lovers, since it's practically in the Parc National des Pyrénées, as well as with skiers who come to enjoy the fabulous skiing at the nearby Barèges, Cauterets, Luz Ardiden, and other such Hautes-Pyrénées ski resorts. Ultimately, though, it must be fair to say that Argelès-Gazost offers a spot of civilization in the thick of nature, making it a great getaway destination.

Location

Argelès-Gazost is situated in the Pyrénées, just to the south of Lourdes and thus south, too, of Tarbes, along the northern periphery of the Pyrénées National Park.
