Introduction
Verona is the home of Romeo and Juliet, the world's most famous lovers. The story of Romeo and Juliet first appeared in the 16th century in Luigi da Porto's novella, Giuletta e Romeo, and was later reprised by William Shakespeare for his play, Romeo and Juliet, which eternalized the city for evermore. Juliet's red-brick home still stands in Verona, intact with the balcony on which she stood, pining for Romeo. But besides its notoriety as the abode of the tragic, noble lovers, Verona comes into its own as the most Venetian of Veneto's cities, a veritable mélange of Roman, medieval, Gothic, Renaissance and Venetian architecture and relics. It is also, just as importantly, the most prosperous of northern Italy's cities, thoroughly cosmopolitan, with high-end fashion stores and upscale boutiques, and no dearth of cafés and good restaurants, largely urbanized in the latter half of the 20th century. The city, besides, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with a well-preserved historic core, and the second-most visited in the Veneto, after Venice.

Verona is situated in the heart of the Verona province in northern Italy, some 73 miles (117 km) west of Venice, or 102 miles (164 km) east of Milan.
