Between Gun Hill and St John’s Church, on Highway 3B in St George, Orchid World houses one of the finest collections of orchids in the Caribbean. Occupying six acres at a height of 800 ft (265 m), its meandering paths take you past a waterfall, a coral grotto, and five different orchid houses. Surrounded by sugarcane, there are many spots offering views of the countryside and ocean beyond. If you visit at the right time, you may spot the stunning schomburgia, a plant that briefly blooms just once a year. Beside native Barbadian flowers there are orchids imported from Thailand, Singapore, Hawaii and the USA.
