Quinta da Boa Vista is a huge park and the zoo is only a small part of it. Once the home of the Brazilian royal family, it has lovely gardens connected by footbridges, waterfalls and even a lake. Also here is São Cristovão Imperial Palace, where both Dom Pedro II and his daughter, Princess Isabel, were born. The palace now houses the National Museum, which has eclectic exhibits ranging from Egyptian mummies to stuffed animals.
