Originally built in 1931 as upscale residences for the French, these three Art Deco mansions are now jointly run as a government hotel. In 1931 Zhou Enlai and Richard Nixon signed the 1972 Shanghai Communique here. The hotel has good facilities and is trying to recapture some its former glory, though the rooms are plain and, despite its history, the building is a little ugly.
