Hotel Belmar (on road to Monteverde, 34 rooms, restaurant). If it were not for the warm temperature and surrounding cloud forest, you’d swear you were in the Alps. This well-known Swiss chalet-style hotel is built into the mountainside facing extravagant gardens that sweep downward to a small lake. The common areas have a rustic feel, but the individual rooms are well appointed, with two beds, dresser, natural wood walls and small balconies overlooking the grounds. The rather expensive restaurant, where dramatic sunsets can set the mood, is renowned for its international cooking.
