Just when you think you’ll never survive another creep-along, crawl-along bumpy road, a short way down this one provides a respite at Restaurante De Lucía (on the road to the Butterfly Gardens, Cerro Plano). We didn’t even see a sign at the intersection (where the Hotel Heliconia and El Establo are) for this surprisingly good eatery featuring international cuisine and excellent wines.
Owner Lucia and her husband José (who was once a lawyer in Chile – so don’t get him started about Pinochet) have built a lovely all-wood restaurant with a European ambience, not to mention a paved parking lot. Open from 11 am for lunch and dinner. Prices are reasonable and the food commendable.
