Four km/2½ miles from Les Saintes Maries de la Mer, an information center gives way to acres of marshland, laced with paths and dotted with blinds from which to watch hundreds of species of birds as well as herds of bulls and horses. The center of the park is devoted to birds of prey. Some larger birds are caged. A visit to the Parc Ornithologique du Pont de Gau is a useful introduction to the Camargue for both experienced and inexperienced bird watchers. open every day, 9 am to sunset, April through September. 10 am to sunset, October through March.
