Damage caused by fires during the heat wave of 2003 forced local authorities to re-route some of the recommended cycling and hiking circuits on the Estérel. At the time of publication, the new trails were not fully complete. The GR51, the Balcony of the Côte d’Azur, was only partially open across the massif. Local tourist offices, along with the hiking and cycling clubs they recommend, are the best sources of information. Make a rough plan using IGN Blue Map 1:25,000 544 est “Fréjus, Saint Raphaël” or the Michelin Green Map #114 1/100,000 – “French Riviera - Var.”
