A popular long-distance hike is the 160-km (96-mile) Alpen-Weitwanderweg. It is divided into seven stages of between five and eight hours each. If the total route is done, an altitude difference of 5,200 m (17,056 feet) is overcome in 40 hours. The route is partly in Austria. It is open from May to October. Maps and other details are available from the tourism offices. The tourism office in Schönau, conducts guided hikes, usually on Tuesday mornings. Other guided hikes are also available–schedules are available from any tourist office in the region
