The Herzogschloss is set inside a park. Parts of the Schloss date back to 1292, but the present Baroque appearance is mostly 17th century. The Schloss has the oldest Baroque theater (1674) still regularly in use in Germany. The interior can only be seen on guided tours that include the private apartments of Queen Caroline Mathilde, the Renaissance Hofkapelle (Court Chapel), and the theater.
Guided tours of the castle are conducted from Tuesday to Sunday, April to October, on the hour from 11 am to 3 pm; from November to February tours are at 11 am and 3 pm only.
