A number of rivers wind their way through Hungary from surrounding countries, along romantic riverbanks, by castles and through misty glades. A number of rivers wind their way through Hungary from surrounding countries, along romantic riverbanks, by castles and through misty glades. Canoeing or boating in Hungary, simply because of its effort to preserve its past, is an experience unique in the world, and in many aspects, is a trip back in time as well as one in nature. However, as adventurous and wonderful as this is, it still often requires strength, stamina, skill, and at times courage, varying with the rivers. The Upper Tisza has the best broadwaters of Europe. The water runs swiftly in some parts, but is generally only a moderately challenging run, and in some parts an easy beginner’s excursion as well.
