East of Lake Garda, the Strada del Vino Bardolino is yet another official Italian wine route (have you tired of these yet?) snaking through vineyards, olive groves, Romanesque churches and old castles. The route travels through many towns in the Veronese countryside where Bardolino is produced, including Cavaion and Calmasino. The scenery, though pretty, may be slightly disappointing after having visited the Strada del Vino Prosecco in Treviso and the road is not marked quite as carefully (making navigating it more of a challenge). It is, however, worth visiting wineries here if you’re interested in Bardolino, a ruby red wine produced using primarily Corvina, Rondinella, Molinara and Negrara grapes. For information about itineraries, wine cellars and restaurants along the route check.
