The Alpine forests of the Alpes Maritime have a good selection of well-maintained mountain bike (VTT) trails connecting the small perched villages and ski resorts. Ranging from challenging itineraries for mountain bike athletes to paths for gentle family outings, the routes in the outer section of the Parc du Mercantour are among the best and most scenic. A Mountain Bike Circuit in the Black Forest has a distance of 11-km/6.8-miles and is easy and suitable for families and groups of mixed abilities. It is a good route to try in hot weather because it is shaded by tall fir and spruce trees. The circuit starts in St. Dalmas Valdeblore, which is on both the Nice-Auron (Route 740) and Nice-Isola 2000 (Route 750) regular bus routes from Nice bus station. Services are frequent throughout the day and take about an hour and a half along either route.
