Flathead and Blackfeet Indian Reservations

Flathead and Blackfeet Reservations

The Flathead and Blackfeet Reservations occupy large tracts of Glacier Country. Their cultural contributions add to Glacier Country’s fascination. The 1.2 million-acre Flathead Reservation, home to nearly 4,000 members of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai tribes, includes the southern half of Flathead Lake. The Cabinet Mountains overlook the reservation on the west. The Mission Mountains stand sentinel on the east. 52,000 acres of reservation lands have been set aside as wildlife refuges and parks. These include Ninepipe and Pablo Wildlife Refuges and the National Bison Range.

The Blackfeet Reservation, comprising 1.5 million acres of Rocky Mountain Front foothills and adjoining prairie lands, is home to some 7,300 members of the Blackfeet tribe. The reservaton is bordered on the west by Glacier Park, on the north by Canada, and on the south by the Great Bear Wilderness.
